A Portal to Answers

“What is the point?...of you know, you going out and doing something so illegal and so pathetic to actually send people through pain that's unnecessary. You know? Like why? Why are you doing that?”

At the COA Goldin Center - a youth center on the Northside - there's now a "portal" taking Milwaukeeans to Newark, New Jersey. The portal -- a gold shipping container equipped with high-speed, life-sized video conferencing -- uses technology to encourage intimate conversations with people across space. Leaders here and in Newark are sharing experiences of and trading solutions to gun violence, an issue weighing on both cities.

A volunteer in Milwaukee sets up the portal for the next conversation. The portal sits behind the COA Goldin Center, just next to Moody Park.
